Menceritakan tentang kejadian pada masa sekolah yang terjadi di sekolah menengah atas Petterson Amerika Serikat. Muncullah seorang remaja bernama Rafe Khatchadorian yang tinggal dirumah dengan dikelilingi banyak masalah. Rafe harus melanjutkan sekolahnya ke sekolah menengah atas. Padahal Rafe memiliki rencana brilian bila dirinya tidak bersekolah di tahun ini.
