A Cure for Wellness (2017)

An ambitious young executive is sent to retrieve his company's CEO from an idyllic but mysterious "wellness center" at a remote location in the Swiss Alps. He soon suspects that the spa's miraculous treatments are not what they seem. When he begins to unravel its terrifying secrets, his sanity is tested, as he finds himself diagnosed with the same curious illness that keeps all the guests here longing for the cure.

A Cure for Wellness punya konsep yang menarik tapi sayangnya dia justru berakhir sebagai film yang hanya sebatas “tries very hard” untuk terlihat unik and strange. Bagian visual mendapat perhatian lebih dari Verbinski dan kualitasnya tidak mengecewakan, ‘A Cure for Wellness’ menghadirkan sebuah visual experience yang terasa uncomfortable and creepy, sound design juga oke. Masalahnya adalah gothic horror ini hanya mampu menjadi psychothriller yang sebatas intriguing, tidak konsisten terasa exciting.Penyebabnya? Storytelling, tidak seperti gambar-gambar cantik itu cerita terasa “little” dan kurang oke bahkan untuk sekedar dapat menjadi chiller yang tidak terasa lembek. Segmented.
