Everest (2015)

On the morning of May 10, 1996, climbers from two commercial expeditions start their final ascent toward the summit of Mount Everest, the highest point on Earth. With little warning, a violent storm strikes the mountain, engulfing the adventurers in one of the fiercest blizzards ever encountered by man. Challenged by the harshest conditions imaginable, the teams must endure blistering winds and freezing temperatures in an epic battle to survive against nearly impossible odds.

Review:

Everest mengambil cerita pada tragedi Mei 1996 yang menewaskan 8 pendaki. Sementara filmnya sendiri memang memfokuskan pada tragedi ini, namun Everest tak pernah menjadi terlalu melodramatis. Alih-alih, dramanya terasa sangat manusiawi, yang kesemuanya dikemas dengan sajian visual yang mengagumkan.

Rob Hall yang menjadi pionir dalam mengkomersialisasikan pendakian ini dengan perusahaannya yang bernama Adventure Consultant. Dengan bantuan koordinator logistik, Helen (Emily Watson) serta peninjau lapangan, Guy (Sam Worthington), Rob sukses mengantarkan 19 klien sampai ke puncak.

film ini tak membuat kita merasakan pengalaman sentimentil yang coba dibawakannya, bahkan di saat salah satu karakter terpenting menghadapi takdir yang tragis.
