Bersetting tahun 90-an dan atmosfer 70-an —anda bisa dengar dari soundtrack lagu-lagu lawas yang keren— skrip dari William Goldman (All the President's Men, The Princess Bride) mengalami kesulitan untuk menggabungkan semua subplot menjadi alur yang koheren. Arc hubungan persahabatannya dengan Cyrus terkesan seperti cerita selingan pada awalnya, tapi kemudian diangkat lagi, sehingga terasa seperti beberapa skenario film yang dicampur menjadi satu dengan intrik dunia mafia yang cukup klise.
