How to Be Single diadaptasi dari novel berjudul sama karya Liz Tuccilo yang rilis 10 Juni 2008. Dikisahkan, salah seorang dari kelima wanita muda New York menulis buku tentang kehidupan wanita lajang. Sang wanita tersebut kemudian berkeliling dunia untuk promo bukunya dan terlibat hubungan asmara internasional sementara empat wanita sekaligus sahabat sang pengarang yang tinggal di New York itu berjuang mendapatkan teman kencan.
