The Revenant (2016)

While exploring the uncharted wilderness in 1823, legendary frontiersman Hugh Glass sustains injuries from a brutal bear attack. When his hunting team leaves him for dead, Glass must utilize his survival skills to find a way back home to his beloved family. Grief-stricken and fueled by vengeance, Glass treks through the wintry terrain to track down John Fitzgerald, the former confidant who betrayed and abandoned him.

Review:

Gerbong juara milik Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu kembali masuk ke rel penantang bagi film-film “Oscarable”. Kali ini lewat “The Revenant” yang bercerita tentang pembalasan dendam yang konon disadur dari kisah nyata. Karya-karya dari sutradara Meksiko ini memang terkenal hampir selalu over the top (bahkan cenderung pretensius), khususnya secara artistik. Jika lewat “Birdman” Inarritu terus mengoyak syaraf rileks penonton dengan rentetan dialog yang seolah tanpa henti, “The Revenant” seolah mengambil cara berlawanan; Menyiksa lewat gambar.
